Matar Masala (Green Peas Gravy)

Easy and quick to make, if you have a pack of frozen peas. If you have to peal it from scratch? Forget it! who has time for that??! Unless you want to eat something truly healthy.

This one here is 100% Vegan and made with teeny-weeny bit of oil when compared to the usual Indian gravies and still tastes the best.

What you need?

 1.  Green Peas (defrosted / blanched *) - 1 cup
 2.  Tomatoes - 5-6
 3.  Cumin seeds - 2 tspn
 4.  Green chilli - 1
 5.  Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn
 6.  Coriander powder - 1/2 tspn
 7.  Garam Masala - 1/2 tspn
 8.  Red Chilli Powder - 1/4 tspn
 9.  Salt - to taste
10. Water - 1/2 cup (or as needed)
11. Oil - 2 tspn

What you have to do?

1. Heat 1 tspn of oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and chopped green chilli and wait until it crackles.

2. Add roughly chopped tomatoes to it and cook until softens.

3. Then cool it down and grind into paste.

4. Add a tspn of oil in the same pan. Pour the puree and let it cook for 3 minutes.

5. Now add the spices and salt quickly and mix.

6. Add the blanched/defrosted peas and stir well. Add some water to get gravy consistency of your choice.

Piece Piece Aagiduva... !! *Rajini Dialogue*

Confessions:
  • I usually eat it with Rotis, Chapathis or Rice.
  • I also adjust or mix-match the spice according to my taste. I usually never make a dish same way twice.
  • I add paneer slices to this at the end along with peas. And voila you have 'Mutter Paneer'
  • Taste: Sour, juicy, sumptuous, sweetness from the peas at times.
  • This recipe is my OWN.
*Blanching: A cooking process where vegetables are immersed in hot water for a short period of time and then run under cold water to halt cooking. This way the vegetables mostly retain their colour.
