Chocolate Sponge Cake (Vegan or not)


Every Chocolate lover's dream. The sweet-bitter quite essential
Chocolate Cake. 'nuf Said!
























What you need?

Dry Ingredients:

 1. Plain flour / Wheat flour - 1 1/2 cups
 2. Cocoa powder* - 1/4 cup 
 3. Sugar - 1 cup
 4. Baking soda - 1 tspn
 5. Salt - a pinch

Wet Ingredients:

 1. Warm water - 1 cup
 2. Oil / Melted Butter - 1/4 cup
 3. Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
 4. Vanilla Essence (optional)

What you have to do? 

1. Mix the dry ingredients together.
2. Then mix the wet ingredients separately.
3. Add wet ingredients mixture to the dry ingredients mixture.


4. Mix them together


5. Pour the batter in a greased and/or baking sheet lined cake pan (24 cm)

6. Bake in an oven for 40 mins at 180 deg** Celsius. Insert a knife through the cake and if it comes out clean its done.



Serve warm or chilled with a dollop of Vanilla Cream



Confessions:
  • Cocoa powder contains some milk solids, so vegans can buy suitable alternative. Maybe a vegan cocoa. I do not have much knowledge about that. 
  • It can be made without cocoa. Then it becomes Vanilla sponge cake :)
  • My oven is a bit weird. I baked this cake for 40 mins at 125 deg Celsius. I think it varies from oven to oven. 
  • My oven burns the sides of the cake, so I put a baking sheet on the sides too. This made those weird waves on the edge of the cake. (Missed the perfect round!! )
  • Taste: Not too sweet, Spongy, smells like coffee, melts in mouth. 
  • This recipe is taken from various sources, so that it is easy to make and tastes good. 
* Replace with vegan cocoa.
